Prior to joining Standard Chartered, Katherine Tsang worked in both the public and private sectors. She has worked for Arco Chemical Asia Pacific, Kowloon-Canton Railway and the Hong Kong Government. In 1992, Tsang joined Standard Chartered Bank, working as HR inspector general of the Asia-Pacific region and inspector general of the structure & study Department.

Thanks to her successful strategizing and HR administration, Tsang was appointed CEO of Standard Chartered Bank (China) Limited in 2009, and has been chairwoman of Standard Chartered PLC for its Chinese mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong operations since January 1, 2011. At present, and under Tsang's management, annual revenues of the Greater China region account for nearly 30 percent of the total number of the Standard Chartered Bank worldwide.
