3. Hukou Waterfall

The Hukou Waterfall is the second largest waterfall in China, and also a magnificent scenic spot in the Yellow River region. It was featured in the 50 Yuan note of the fourth series of RMB.

Hukou Waterfall is situated at the edge of Shannxi Province and Shanxi Province. When the Yellow River surges towards it and is blocked by the Hukou Mountain, its width is abruptly narrowed down to 40-50 meters from 400 meters. The rushing water pours dramatically to form a huge kettle spout, literally translated as Hukou. Because of water erosion, Hukou Waterfall widens its range little by little; therefore this sight on the ten Yuan note will be a historical relic in a few hundred years.
