The view from the Zhengguo Temple looks down hundreds of meters to a broad stream babbling below. Mount Mian's unique combination of intense mountains and abundant water is rare in this largely dry region of China, and these geographic features are what ultimately caused it to be revered by ancient Chinese as a sacred place related to rain. A small pavilion at the very base of cliff serves as a reminder that pre-modern visitors faced a long and arduous climb up to Mianshan's many religious sites from a road that wound along the riverbed.
