When travelling to Mount Huangshan in Huangshan City, where the Hui cuisine, one of the eight major regional cuisines in China, originates, you should not miss out on your chance to experience the local culinary tradition.

Hui cuisine, which has a history of more than 100 years, is very particular about the cooking materials and adopts braising, stewing and steaming as its major cooking methods.

However, dining up on Mount Huangshan is very expensive, so you'd be better off eating at the foot of the mountain or in downtown Huangshan, before or after a refreshing hike across the area.

Following are some of the best-recommended restaurants:

-- The First on the Ancient Street (老街第一楼)
