Editor’s note:Self-driving tours have been gaining popularity among Chinese tourists in recent years. One of the popular places for self-driving tours in China is Sichuan, as the province boasts rich tourism resources. China.org.cn has compiled information about some of the best routes for self-driving tours in Sichuan. Here are one of them:

Western Sichuan Loop

The route is both loved and hated by self-driving tourists: They love the paradise-style sceneries they see, and hate the hell-style sufferings they have to go through physically.

Best time for the tour: May, late October to mid-November

Day 1: Chengdu-Dujiangyan-Yingxiu Township-Wolong-Mount Balang Pass-Rilong Township

Wolong

Itinerary:

Set out from Chengdu and arrive at Wolong by way of Dujiangyan and Yingxiu Township. Take a short break before crossing Mount Balang, which is 4487 meters above sea level. After crossing the pass, drive all the way downward until you reach the Maobiliang, a sight-seeing deck of Mount Siguniang. Stay overnight in Rilong Townshipl.
