The China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing says the country's main indicator for manufacturing activity, the Purchasing Managers' Index, edged up to 41.2 in December.

The number is up from November's record low of 38.8. A PMI reading over 50 indicates expansion of activity in the manufacturing sector, while below 50 suggests contraction.
