Director Zhang Yimou's The Curse of the Golden Flower was the top-grossing film in 2006. But the novel of the same title is no more than a screenplay, thus gaining limited attention in the book market. However, Zhang's earlier films, "The Red Lantern" and "To Live" are successful adaptations of famous novels. And the popularity of the films have brought a renewed interest in the corresponding literature.
