The 5th China International Animation Expo kicked off last Saturday at the Shanghai Exhibition Center. The expo attracts spectators of all ages by covering everything from TV cartoon programs to feature-length animated films.

Nearly 200 firms from 12 countries are participating in the event. More than 70 percent of them are Chinese corporations.

Special events are tailored for the expo, including the screening of original cartoon shows, and cosplays. Many kids escorted by their parents are quite excited because they get a sneak peak of some animated features that will soon to hit theatres.

The expo provides a platform for young animators to communicate and exchange ideas. Many firms seize the opportunity to promote their original cartoon works and related merchandise.

The expo runs till next Monday.
