It has been ten days since the deadly riot in Urumqi. During the violence there were a number of times when people of all ethnic groups stood united and protected each other.

There are more than 700 households in this residential area. Most of them are Uygurs. On the night of the riot, residents saved the lives of more than 20 Han.

Aymana, Director of Residential Property Managerment Company, said, "Many people were running towards the residential area. We couldn't recognize their faces. They asked us to save their lives and we let them in."

This gate in the residential area was closed to protect the injured. But where there was no gate security guards and people of all ethnic groups stood together to create a human wall to block the rioters.

Abdulla Tursun, Security Leader of Residential Area, said, "The rioters threw stones at our men and one of them was injured. But other guards held their ground."

These injured people were sent to hospital for treatment. And residents offered their donations to the wounded. They say they are one family and ethnic unity will never be destroyed.
