Typhoon Morakot causes floods and landslides in Zhejiang
Adjust font size:

The local authorities removed more than 13-thousand residents on Monday night...And they blasted a section of the river bank the next morning... to release the water.

The level of the Tiaoxi River is now gradually dropping. But in the most seriously-hit town of Pingyao, the water is still flooding the streets and people's homes.

The continuous rain has also caused a landslide in Pengxi township in Taishun county. Six people were buried in debris when a huge volume of mud and rocks toppled houses late Monday night. Two people were killed and the other four were injured...but they do not have life-threatening injuries. About six hundred local residents were evacuated.
