When Poonam Surie first came to China with her husband, there was a lot she did not understand. As wife of the Indian ambassador, she strived to connect with the people and immersed herself daily in the Chinese culture. When she left, she realized there were a lot of threads linking the two cultures together. In China: A Search for its Soul, Surie details her daily life in China and delves into the rich, historical ties that exist between India and China. She is hoping that through her book as well as her close friendship with Deng Junbing, professor and wife of the former Chinese ambassador to India, she can promote a deeper understanding between the neighboring countries.
