Ancient music genre revived in Beijing

An audience member said, "I am not familiar with the Nanyin music, but I am very glad to see that performers from across the Strait have maintained our musical heritage."

"I am deeply impressed by the dance moves. They are distinctive and imbued with history," said an audience member.

The Hantang Yuefu Music Ensemble was founded in 1983. Its purpose was to confirm the major role of Nanyin in the history of Chinese music, to trace its origins to their earliest sources, and to train singers and instrumentalists in the proper art of performing Nanyin music, thus saving it from oblivion.

"Night Entertainment of Han Xizai" is scheduled for another performance on Thursday.
