Special Report:Unrest in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev failed to give a speech to his supporters on Thursday in the southern Kyrgyz city of Osh, as the opposition broke up the rally and Bakiyev's guards fired warning shots into the air, media reports said.

Soon after Bakiyev arrived at the city square and began to speak, supporters of the interim government interrupted the rally and hurled stones at people, trying to get to Bakiyev, the Interfax news agency reported.

The bodyguards of Bakiyev opened fire into air and escorted the president back to his car and drove away, the report said.

An anti-Bakiyev rally was also going on in the city.

Bakiyev, who was toppled and who fled the capital city of Bishkek last week during an unrest that killed over 80 people, said Tuesday he would resign if the interim government guarantees his security.

The Kyrgyz interim government on Tuesday issued an ultimatum for Bakiyev to surrender hours after it abolished his presidential immunity.
