The ousted Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev's brother denied Friday that Bakiyev had resigned, saying the faxed statement of Bakiyev on his resignation was faked, Russia's RIA Novosti news agency reported.

Businessman Ahmad Bakiyev said in the village of Teyit of the southern Jalalabad region that they were negotiating with Bakiyev, who left the country for Kazakhstan on Thursday night, and the issue of resignation has not been confirmed.

Late Thursday the interim leader Roza Otunbayeva said they had received a letter of resignation from Bakiyev via fax.

"Fully aware of my responsibility for the future of the people in these tragic days, and for Kyrgyzstan's integrity, I resign in compliance with Article 50 of the Constitution," said Otunbayeva quoting the statement.
