Egypt's public prosecutor Saturday referred two policemen to a criminal court over torturing a young blogger, who has been allegedly beaten to death by the two men.

Mahmoud Salah Mahmoud and Awad Ismail Suleiman face the charges of unwarranted arrest of Khaled Mohamed Said, 28, and torturing him, state-run MENA news agency reported.

Investigations showed that the two policemen dragged Said outside an internet cafe earlier in June and beat him fiercely before he died of asphyxia after swallowing a joint of bhang narcotic during the arrest.

According to the results of a second autopsy ordered by Public Prosecutor Abdel Meguid Mahmoud, injuries found in Said's body are not the cause of his death.

Rightist groups and Said's family say the young man was beaten to death by the two security agents in revenge for spreading a video showing policemen dividing the spoils of a drug bust among themselves.
