China calls for consensus on Iranian nuclear issue

China on Tuesday urged all parties concerned to achieve greater consensus during an upcoming meeting on the Iranian nuclear issue to be held in Istanbul.
A Chinese delegation led by an official of the Department of Arms Control and Disarmament of the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will attend the technical-level meeting between the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) and Iran scheduled for Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said at a regular news briefing in response to a question regarding the meeting.
Liu said the parties concerned will discuss some substantial issues on Iran's nuclear program "in an in-depth way" after the Moscow dialogue.
During intensive talks in the Russian capital on June 18-19, Iran and the P5+1 did not sign any agreement, but agreed to an expert-level meeting in Istanbul in early July.
"We hope that all the sides will enhance understanding on each other's stance, expand consensus and reduce differences through the meeting, and lay a sound foundation for a solution (to the Iranian nuclear issue) via follow-up dialogues," Liu added.
