From drug-addicted stars to celebrity sex scandals and high-profile breakups, 2011 was an action-packed year of drama for those involved in China's entertainment industry:

10, Drunk-driving musician locked up

It should have been a relaxing Saturday night for musician Gao Xiaosong. But rather than take him merrily home, four bottles of beer led him to the police station. Gao's blood alcohol level of 156 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters -- almost double the legal limit for driving -- led to a four-car pileup which left four people injured.

The 42-year-old singer, music producer and director was found guilty of drunk driving on May 9. He was sentenced to six months in jail and fined 4,000 yuan ($615). He became the first celebrity to be punished under tough new traffic rules which came into effect on May 1.

Gao has since apologized to both the public and his family for his actions. In expressing his willingness to voluntarily promote an anti-drunk driving campaign, he said: "I'm beyond regretful, that's all I can say."

Whilst serving time in jail, Gao wrote his own "Jailhouse Rock", a theme song entitled "Like a Dream" for his debut film "My Kingdom" which was released in September.
