9, Hong Kong celebrity couple's unhappy ending
After months of public and media speculation, the troubled celebrity couple Nicholas Tse and Cecilia Cheung finally announced their divorce on August 19.
The couple cited "incompatibility" as the reason for their divorce and said that, after peaceful negotiations, they have agreed to share custody of their two sons, Lucas, 4, and Quintus, 1. They confirmed that their sons' happiness remains their top priority.
But the divorce was far from painless. Cecilia Cheung even cried publicly and happily for her husband after he received a best actor award at The Hong Kong Film Awards early this year. But soon everything changed.
Events went downhill following allegations that Cecilia took photos with her former beau Edison Chan on a flight. The separate camps of the two stars disclosed many "ugly truths" including stories of Cecilia's spending sprees and her desire to transfer Tse's estate to her own name. Meanwhile, while Cecilia openly accused Tse of personally spreading rumor and innuendo. She also accused him of merely pretending to be a good husband and father despite his "dislike of children."
And so, what began as a fairy tale of love, eventually ended in a very public drama of hate.
