9. Lied to hold on to his relationship with Zhang Yimou

While chatting with Zhou Xiaofeng in January 2012, Zhang Yimou said that although it was difficult for Zhang Weiping and him to bridge the gap between themselves, the strain in their relationship couldn't be described as a total break.

Zhang Yimou still thought Zhang Weiping had showed him two great kindnesses. First, Zhang Weiping said he had made a great effort to ensure that Zhang Yimou was appointed the general director of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies, and the latter believed this beyond the shadow of a doubt. Second, in 2004 and in 2009, when some film and TV companies were suing Zhang Yimou and his workshop, Zhang Weiping helped him resolve the disputes.

Long afterward, these two stories were ultimately confirmed to have been carefully fabricated by Zhang Weiping, who used the lies to keep Zhang Yimou close to him.

10. Leaked the secret of Zhang Yimou's three unregistered children

In early 2014, Zhang Yimou was forced to pay about 7.48 million yuan in penalties for fathering three children in violation of China's family planning policy. According to Zhou Xiaofeng, Zhang Weiping was behind the leak of the decade-long secret of the director's unregistered children.

Zhang Weiping knew of the relationship between Zhang Yimou and Chen Ting from the very beginning, and he was the only person outside of Zhang Yimou's family with knowledge of the director's secret for a long time. He even offered to help obtain birth certificates for the unregistered children.

Zhang Yimou's misplaced trust in Zhang Weiping had many ramifications. After the two Zhangs split, all three certificates were found to be fake, according to Zhou.
