Disney's latest episode in the Star Wars saga, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", staged its first promotional event on China's landmark Great Wall near Beijing on Tuesday.

Hundreds of fans gathered at Juyongguan Pass, a popular renovated section of the Great Wall, to witness four huge illuminant billboards of film's Chinese title and 500 stormtrooper models displayed on the ancient historic landscape.

A trailer of the latest episode was also screened three times at the event. The trailer has already enjoyed a huge viewing surge on various platforms around the world. A total of more than 23 million visits to view it on Youtube.com and Facebook were recorded in less than 24 hours.

Fans’ demand for tickets for the film also led to the crash of several major booking sites, such as Fandango and MovieTickets.com, in the United States, as well as some in the United Kingdom on Monday. On Fandango, pre-sales already involve eight times as many tickets as the previous record-holder, "The Hunger Games".

The film will debut in North America Dec. 18 and in the U.K. the previous day.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens," directed by J. J. Abrams and starring John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill, is the latest installment of the top grossing franchise in a decade after the Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm for US$4.05 billion in 2012.

The film will probably hit Chinese theaters in early 2016, while Chinese fans will also enjoy the ride of the Star Wars Launch Bay at the Shanghai Disney Resort due to open next Spring.
