Damon says the fifth installment of the Borne franchise aims to address issues relevant to the modern life.

"Our lives have changed kind of in front of our eyes, so incredibly quickly and then of course there's a major issue of privacy versus security and these digital lives that we all have. It's dawned on us that they say a lot about us and who we are, and privy to that information and who should be. You know these are the central questions that face every country in the world right now."

Damon's earlier film "The Martian" performed very well in China, and he hopes his latest project can repeat that success.

"Hopefully it will find a big audience here in China, but we'll see, the audience will be the judge. It's a good place for every film, it's one of the biggest markets in the world and it's the second biggest right now and it is only growing, so there are huge movie fans here, which is awesome and for people like me who make movies for a living. This is an incredibly important place."

Next, Damon will star in "The Great Wall," one of the biggest China-U.S. co-productions to date, directed by famed Chinese director Zhang Yimou.

"Jason Bourne" opens in China next Tuesday.
