'La La Land' leads BAFTA awards with 11 nominations

Film "La La Land" leads this year's British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) movie awards nominations, BAFTA announced Tuesday morning.

The musical is nominated in 11 categories including best film, best actor for Ryan Gosling and best actress for Emma Stone, as well as best director.

The BAFTA awards are part of the annual movie awards season, and indicate films which may get nominations for Hollywood's Oscars.

The sci-fi drama "Arrival," directed by Denis Villeneuve, and fashion designer Tom Ford's thriller "Nocturnal Animals" both won nine nominations each, while "Manchester by the Sea" was next most nominated with six.

Leading Actor nominations were: Andrew Garfield in "Hacksaw Ridge;" Casey Affleck in "Manchester by the Sea;" Jake Gyllenhaal in "Nocturnal Animals;" Ryan Gosling in "La La Land;" Viggo Mortensen in "Captain Fantastic."

Nominated for leading actress were: Amy Adams in "Arrival;" Emily Blunt in "The Girl on the Train;" Emma Stone in "La La Land;" Meryl Streep in "Florence Foster Jenkins;" Natalie Portman "Jackie."

Best film nominations were: "I, Daniel Blake," "La La Land," "Manchester By the Sea," "Moonlight," and "Arrival."

The BAFTA awards will be made on February 11 at a ceremony in London's Albert Hall.
