Poverty relief efforts give wings to dreams

Benefitting from the country's poverty alleviation efforts, villagers from southwest China's Guizhou Province share their stories and dreams for the New Year.

"The Chinese dream, after all, is the dream of the people." said President Xi Jinping at the closing meeting of the National People's Congress on March 17, 2013.

Benefitting from the country's poverty alleviation efforts, people from Guizhou Province, one of the most poverty-stricken provinces in southwest China, share their stories and dreams for the New Year.

"I want to have my own bicycle"

Yuexia Village of the Guanling Buyi and Miao Autonomous County in Anshun City used to suffer from the effects of an encroaching desert and Illiteracy. Its per capita annual income was around 3,000 yuan (US$456). In early 2014, Wang Jianhao's father was loaned 20 cows free of charge thanks to a poverty alleviation project aimed at helping famers raise livestock. Their lives began to get better.
