5. Difficulty in seeing a doctor: classificatory treatment to ease the problem
Li Bin, head of the National Health and Family Planning Commission [China.org.cn] |
On a previous occasion, Li told the press in the Great Hall of the People that she was grateful to the young woman who was seen in a recent online video denouncing hospital scalpers. "I want to thank that young woman. Her roar facilitated the solution to a chronic problem," said Li. The minster said that the medical scalper problem reflects the fundamental insufficiency of medical resources. According to her, medical departments will join with police to crack down on hospital scalpers; such actions have already been carried out in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong. In addition to stricter control, real-name hospital registration will also be promoted nationwide.
On the same issue, the NHFPC vice minister Ma Xiaowei also said on March 8 at an NPC press conference that the difficulties in seeking medical treatment are representative of the insufficiency of medical resources. He advised that classificatory medical service is an important measure in lessening the difficulty in seeking medical treatment.
Commenting on the high prices of some patented drugs, Li said that the NHFPC is taking measures, such as accepting the motions and proposals of NPC deputies and CPPCC members to conduct national negotiations. "Preliminary negotiations have been successful. Prices are likely to fall by more than 50 percent," she said.
"Once the negotiations have been successfully concluded, we will consider making them reimbursable in our medical insurance plan so as to make prices fall significantly," said Ma. He said that the national health authority will also underscore the development of similar drugs while opening the way for special drugs to expedite clearance through customs.
