Wuhan to Hold 14th Food Expo

The 14th Food Expo and Trade Fair is to be held from December 10 to 14 in Wuhan, capital city of central China's Hubei province.

Jointly sponsored by Hubei provincial government, Wuhan municipal government, China General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) and China National Food Industry Association (CNFIA), the expo will feature the promotion of green food, according to Thursday's press conference.

The expo has attracted food suppliers from across the nation. Insiders said that one quarter of the 800 showcases will display green food, organic food and pollution-free food.

Many famous domestic and international retailers such as Wal-Mart, Carrefour and Wangfujing plan to buy the products on display.

A forum on the marketing of green food will be held during the expo.

According to sources, China's green food industry has witnessedstrong growth momentum in recent years. However, so far there are no supermarkets specializing in selling green food in the country.

The forum will include discussions on the feasibility of setting up designated shops in large cities to promote the sale ofgreen food.

Feng Yeyue, an official from CGCC said that all the poultry products to be displayed will go through quarantine procedures to ward off possible diseases.
