Wu Shiming, former vice-chancellor of the Shanghai Tongji University, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for taking bribes worth 80,000 yuan (US$9,638) and US$20,000.
The sentence was given recently by the Intermediate People's Court of Ningbo after Wu was arrested by the People's Procuratorate of Ningbo City on Jan. 4, 2002 on charges of bribery.
According to the court, Wu took advantage of his senior university posts and acting as general manager of a local real estate development company to accept bribes from Liu Jianmin, vice-general manager of the company.
All the money has been confiscated, according to the court.
