Profile: US President George W. Bush

The following is the profile of George W. Bush, president of the United States.

George W. Bush was born in Newhaven, Connecticut on July 6, 1946, and later moved to Texas. He received a bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1968 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1975.

Bush served as a pilot for the Texas Air National Guard before beginning his career in the oil and gas business in Texas and working in the energy industry until 1986.

After working on his father's successful presidential campaign in 1988, he assembled the group of partners that purchased the Texas Rangers baseball franchise in 1989.

He served as managing general partner of the Texas Rangers until he was elected governor on November 8, 1994. He became the first Texas governor to be elected to a consecutive four-year term on November 3, 1998.

Bush met Chinese President Jiang Zemin at the Shanghai APEC meeting in October, 2001 after he was elected the 43rd president of the United States in 2000.

Bush and his wife, Laura, a former teacher and librarian, have twin daughters.
