Shenzhou V Accomplished Every Experiment
"Today, October 16, 2003, is a day that every Chinese is proud of and is unforgettable. It is in this day that we Chinese make our dream true to accomplish the first manned space mission entirely relying on ourselves," said Mr. Xie Mingbao, director of the China Manned Space Engineering Office, at a press conference organized by the State Council Information Office at 10:30 am on October 16.

Shenzhou V Reaches for the Stars
China's first manned spacecraft, the Shenzhou V, blasted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the northwestern province of Gansu at 9:00 this morning. The spacecraft, atop a Long March II F rocket, was piloted by Lieutenant Colonel Yang Liwei. At around 9:10, Shenzhou V moved into orbit, indicating success of China's endeavor to put a piloted space vehicle into orbit.
