China Still a Safe Place to Travel: WHO
The World Health Organization (WHO) said in Beijing Monday that China is still a safe place to travel even though the suspected case of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Guangdong was finally confirmed as diagnosed one. "One SARS case in China is not an immediate public-health threat and there was no evidence of a spread of infection from the SARS patient to date," said WHO representative in China Henk Bekedam.

Traffic in Beijing is expected to improve so much that by 2008, it will take less than half an hour for Olympic athletes to travel from the Olympic Village to every venue in the city, vowed Liu Xiaoming, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Communications Commission.
'Opening Up' for News, Too
The State Council Information Office (SCIO) will make fresh moves this year to set up a three-tier government news-release system, according to Minister Zhao Qizheng. The three-tier system will feature spokespersons for the State Council, all central government ministries and provincial-level governments.
US Mars Rover Lands Safely
The exploration of Mars entered a new phase as Spirit, the first of US twin rovers, landed on the Red Planet later Saturday. The rover can work as a robotic field geologist and can see sharper images, explore farther and examine rocks better than anything that's ever landed on Mars.
