Chinese Culture School Opens in Beijing

A unique research institute is being set up, devoted to the study of Chinese culture, which opens in September at Beijing's Renmin University.

It opens in September at Beijing's Renmin University.

The University's President Ji Baocheng says the Institute will train talented students and conduct academic research.

He says it's an experiment in teaching this new subject, and a group of celebrated scholars and experts on Chinese culture will be invited to join. Academics from western academics will also be allowed to join.

"Chinese national culture" generally refers to traditional Chinese culture but also looks at how it has shaped contemporary society.
