Public Fuxi Memorial Ceremony to Be Held in Gansu

The 17th China Public Fuxi Memorial Ceremony will be officially held in Gansu's Tianshui City on July 3rd.

On June 22nd, Li Ying, deputy governor of Gansu Province, indicated at a press conference that unlike previous ceremonies, this year's Public Fuxi Memorial Ceremony will be hosted by the provincial government so as to explore profound heritage of Fuxi Culture, enhance Gansu's fame and keep development of its tourism industry in line with its social economic development.

As the hometown of Emperor Fuxi, Tianshui has hosted 16 Public Fuxi Memorial Ceremonies since 1988.

According to a large number of documentary records and archaeological discoveries, Fuxi culture has a history of over 8,000 years. According to documents in Pre-Qin times (before 248 BC) and historical books in the Han dynasty (206 BC-220AD), Fuxi was honored as the ancestor of five emperors (the Yellow Emperor, Zhuanxu, Ku, Yao and Shun) and the head of three august ones (Fuxi, Nuwa and Shennong). Tianshui has long been an important region where forefathers of the Chinese nation represented by Fuxi were born, procreated and lived. Every year, many Chinese from home and abroad travel thousands of miles to this city to seek their ancestors and hold sacrificial ceremonies for Fuxi.
