A museum on the history of anti-Japanese colonial rule by people in Taiwan opened Tuesday in Xiamen, an eastern coastal city where many Taiwanese in exile fought for Taiwan's return to the motherland.

The opening is part of the nationwide celebrations marking Taiwan's return to the motherland on Oct. 25 six decades ago.

An exhibition held in the museum displayed more than 200 pictures, reflecting the history of that period.

In a Tuesday speech at Beijing's grand gathering to mark China's recovery of Taiwan from Japan, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, reiterated that no one is allowed to doubt or challenge that Taiwan is an indispensable part of the Chinese territory.

Xiamen, in Fujian Province where lots of Taiwanese owe their ancestral roots, is the mainland's bridgehead in contacts with Taiwan.
