An exhibition on photos, videos and installations made by Chinese artists and collected by a US couple will open for display at the China Art Gallery (CAG) in Beijing.

More than 50 pieces of photographs, videos and installations by 14 Chinese contemporary artists are expected to be shown at the retrospective, titled "Focus: China Contemporary Art," from Nov. 5to 20, according to Feng Yuan, CAG's curator.

Most of the items are collection of the Haudenschild couple from San Diego, who are among the most prestigious collectors of contemporary Chinese artworks.

"The exhibition items epitomize the lives of contemporary Chinese people, and the changing society and value system from new perspectives", Feng said.

Although influenced by western artistic concepts, the works still have Chinese styles and characters, he said.

The works were shown at various international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale, the Shanghai Biennale, the Kassell Documenta, the Yokohama Triennial of Contemporary Art, those at the New York-based Museum of Modern Art and Tokyo Mori Art Museum, according to Feng.

It is the first time that foreign collectors have brought Chinese photos and video works back to China's capital, he said.
