Art Works from Students Showcase City Culture
A total of 4,927 works of art which tell the story of the city's culture from a student's perspective are on exhibit in Shanghai.

The exhibit is the product of a national competition of visual design for university students on the theme of Shanghai's bid for the World Expo 2010.

The works feature posters, sculptures, gifts, trophies and diplomas on the World Expo.

Qin Su, a sophomore in Anhui Polytechnical University, won the top prize in the contest on November 23 for a poster depicting thenight sky. "Shanghai can be described as changing every day and that's where my inspiration came from," Qin said.

Most of the works have a Chinese flavor and some try to harmonize Chinese and Western culture.

One designer patched Chinese characters, ink paintings, Tang jackets, abaci, paper cuttings and a landmark building in Shanghai together to echo the city's bid theme of "Better city, better life".

Another designer presented a half-kneeling clay warrior figure, holding a smiling foreign ballet dancer in his palms.

Many students studying overseas have sent works home for the exhibition, said organizer Lin Jiayang.
