Official: Civil Intermediation Important to Stability
Civil intermediation is the key to China's social stability and building a socialist society at the grass-roots level with an advanced culture and ideology, socialist ideological and ethical progress, a senior Chinese official stressed Saturday.

Luo Gan, state councilor and secretary of the Central Political Science and Law Committee under the Communist Party of China (CPC)Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with representatives of model groups and model individuals who were commended Saturday by the Supreme People's Court and the Ministry of Justice for their outstanding work in intermediating civil disputes.

He urged people's courts at various levels and judicial departments to improve their work and do their utmost to resolve disputes at the grass-roots level.

With the deepening of China's reform and growing socialist market economy, he said, civil disputes nationwide have evolved in new ways. The current scope and organizational mode of the country's civil intermediation work are unsuitable to the needs of the market.

He said governments at all levels should uphold the fundamental interests of the people and earnestly carry out their duty so as to guarantee the country's long-term national security.

Wei Jianxing, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also met with the model groups representatives and model individuals.
