Torches Light up SW China

The Fourth International Torch Festival of the Yi ethnic group is going on amid bright flames and all kinds of activities.

The traditional festival runs from August 9th to 13th in Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture of southwest China's Sichuan Province and has attracted visitors from all over the world.

Many celebrities, such as Hong Kong singer Kelly Chen, or Chen Huilin in mandarin, and mainland pop star Han Hong, were also invited to perform as guest singers.

During the event, torches are lit at night to expel evil and aid in prayers for prosperity. Many funny games are held, including wrestling, bull fighting and horse-racing.

Originating in ceremonies offering tributes to ancestors, the annual event is the Yi people's New Year and one of the world's largest celebrations themed on fire.
