At least 50 dead in Kenya church fire

Fifty people, including many children, were killed on Tuesday in a church fire torched by a mob in western Kenya when they were shelering from violence following Kenya's disputed election, according to local police and Red Cross sources.

Witnesses said the people were burned alive or hacked to death with machetes in violence, according to media reports.

 

Violence erupted throughout Kenya after President Mwai Kibaki was re-elected who was accused of doctoring by opposition candidate Raila Odinga.

 

The violence, from the shantytowns of Nairobi to resort towns on the sweltering coast, exposing tribal resentments has killed at least 270 people.
