Produced by the Harbin power station company, the unit is the first of its kind designed and made by China specially for the second phase project of the plant.

Construction on the second phase of the project at Qinshan began on June 2, 1996, with an investment of 14.8 billion yuan (US$1.8 billion).

Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant was the first nuclear power plant built with China's own technology.
