The 24th Luoyang Peony Festival opened on Monday in central China's Henan Province, and flowers in blossom are expected to attract both bees and investment.

Luoyang, once an imperial capital for 13 dynasties through the Chinese history, grows China's best tree peonies. And peony flowers were deemed as royal flower for its luxuriant blossom symbolizing prosperity and richness.

Wang Jihong, secretary-general of the local peony garden, said that over 10,000 tourists visited the garden occupying 1,300 ha. of land on the first day of the festival, which will last till May 10.

Wang said that over 20 countries have introduced peony species from Luoyang.

Luoyang will host a series of trade fairs and economic exchange activities during the festival. The flower show has helped attract over 400 business people to the city.
