Heavy Wind Claims 8th Victim in Cambodia in 2006

A Cambodian boy was drowned after his boat was capsized by heavy wind on Mekong River, pushing the death toll of angry weather to eight for this year, police said on Sunday.

Pov Pesit, police chief of Koh Sutin District of Kompong Cham province, told Xinhua over phone that at about 03:00 pm on Friday, heavy storm capsized a boat when a father and his three-year-old son onboard were fishing on the river.

The father lost conscience for a few minutes, unable to take care of his boy. Later when the father took the boy up onto the land, the boy's pulse was too weak and died, he added.

According official figures, the boy was the 8th person dying of heavy wind so far this year.
