An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale jolted near the north coast of New Guinea, Papua New Guinea at 22:55:26 GMT on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 8.00 km, was initially determined to be at 3.1779 degrees south latitude and 142.5143 degrees east longitude.
