Senior Chinese leader Jia Qinglin said in Bucharest on Monday that China will always pursue the route of peaceful development.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), or China's top political consultative body, made the remarks when delivering a speech at the Senate of Romania Monday evening.

Jia said in the speech that China is a peace-loving country and will always be a steady force for maintaining world peace. The Chinese people has always attached priority to harmony and pursued "peace for all states" and "world peace" as the utmost ideal.

Noting that the Chinese people had all kinds of sufferings under the bully and humiliation of Western powers in the modern history, Jia said China has a stronger-than-ever sense of cherishing peace after going through a long period of wars and turmoils.

He emphasized that China will never interfere in other countries' internal affairs, nor impose its own ideas on others. He said China pursues a defensive defense policy and will never go into expansion.

Jia said China values mutual benefits and will unswervingly pursue an opening policy of mutual benefits. It will take care of the legitimate concern of the other parties, especially developing countries, while realizing its own development goals. It will support the international community's effort to help the developing countries build development ability and improve people's standards of living.

Jia said China will also actively participate in international cooperation on trade, investment, finance and energy, while properly resolve trade frictions through consultations. China will push for a situation where all countries share development opportunities and face together challenges, he added.
