Russia wraps up rescue, relief operation in China
Adjust font size:

Russia has wrapped up its large-scale rescue and relief operation in China's quake-hit region, but it will offer more aid to China, the Russia Emergency Situations Ministry said Wednesday.

The ministry has sent 12 aircrafts with nearly 300 tons of emergency aid, as well as rescue and medical teams, to southwestern China's Sichuan province since May 13, said Brazhnikov, director of the ministry's international bureau, adding that a Mi-26 helicopter is still serving in the disaster-stricken area.

Late Tuesday, a 65-member Russian medical team completed a two-week rescue and relief operation in Sichuan and returned to Russia.

The team, comprising experts and surgery equipment, provided internal medicine, pediatric care, neurosurgery and psychotherapy, treating 1,516 patients and carrying out 102 operations, the director said.

Russia will continue to provide aid to China in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, he said, adding that a group of Chinese professionals are expected to arrive in Russia for training soon.
