The 2013 Summer Universiade officially arrived in Kazan today, on June 29, as the first athletes began arriving in the host city of the upcoming World University Summer Games. The first to step foot on Tatarstan soil was a representative of Costa Rico, Andrea Victoria Gillien Bargas. The next plane, which landed at the Kazan International Airport late at night, brought the New Zealand team. Athletes of Japan and Uruguay are expected to arrive in Kazan in the evening on June 29.
All guests will be accommodated in the Universiade Village, which is well equipped and set up for their arrival. The Main Restaurant started its work early in the morning today, and in the evening the grand opening of the Universiade Village, its lounge zone and the Universiade Museum, which is located in the campus, will be held.
All in all, the capital of Tatarstan expects the arrival of athletes from 162 countries of the world, which, to date, is the record number in the history of World University Summer Games. Last Universiade participants, representatives of the Mali national team, will come to Kazan on July 1.
