China will bring its strongest team to the 27th Summer Universiade 2013 which will compete for medals nearly in every sport.
China has traditionally been regarded as one of the main favourites at any sports competitions - whether it is the Olympic Games or the Universiade. At the Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, which China hosted in 2011, the Chinese team did not leave any chances to their rivals: China finished first in teams' overall medal table and set an absolute record in the number of gold medals – 75. Hence, China hopes to show high performance at the Games in Kazan as well and is sending her best athletes, including Olympic and Universiade champions.
In diving, China will be represented by London 2012 gold medallist Luo Yutong. He won the men's synchronised 3m springboard together with Qin Kai. The 27-year-old athlete has also previously won at two world championships (2007, 2011) as well as at the Summer Asian Games.
China has also had the following athletes registered for participation in the Games in Kazan: winners at the Summer Universiade 2011 Lin Jin (1m springboard), Wu Jun (10 metre platform), Huo Liang (synchronised 10 metre platform) and Games silver medallist Sun Zhiyi (1 metre springboard).
The Chinese have been traditional leaders in shooting sport. The main contenders for victory in Kazan will definitely be 2012 Olympic champion and 2010 world champion in the 10 metre air rifle Yi Siling, as well as the last Olympic Games' bronze medallist in the 25 metre rapid fire pistol shooting and two-time champion of the 2011 Summer Universiade Ding Feng.
Among the favourites also are 2011 Summer Universiade winner in the 50 metre rifle prone Li Peijing, Games silver medallists Cao Yifei (50 metre rifle prone), Kang Hongwei (50 metre rifle three positions), Pang Wei (10 metre air pistol), as well as bronze winners Li Yuehong (25 metre rapid fire pistol) and Mai Jiajie (50 metre pistol).
China is also leading in table tennis, in which they won seven medals out of seven medals available at the previous Summer Universiade. At the Games in Kazan, we will see winners in these competitions Yuefei Ma, Rao Jingwen and Kun Shang, silver medallist Xiong Xinyun and bronze medallist Fang Bo.
There will be a few more 2011 Summer Universiade champions on the Chinese national team competing in Kazan: chess players Li Chao and Tan Zhongyi, Xiongfeng Su (long jump), gymnast Chen Xuezhang and weightlifter Xiao Hongyu.
In team sports at the Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, the Chinese team won in the women's water polo and football competitions and placed second in volleyball.
