Shi Jinquan, a renowned netizen among China's online community, recently attracted attention for seeking charity by false pretences in his efforts to help Xie Sanxiu, a woman from the countryside in Hubei Province and who cannot afford to pay medical treatment for her daughter's eye cancer.

Xie posted a message in a web forum asking for donations.

A netizen, named "Jinquan Shaoxia," responded to her request saying he would donate 20,000 yuan if Xie walked on her knees through Guangzhou city center. But the netizen refused to pay up after Xie completed his request. His refusal was widely denounced on the Internet.

But it was later revealed the netizen, whose real name is Shi Jinquan, has persuaded Xie to stage the stunt as a ploy to drum up sympathy and donations for the latter's sick daughter.
