Anhui, a province in Eastern China, has been fostering its great strengths in such industries as auto, equipment manufacturing, quality metal and non-metal materials, cement, agricultural product processing, energy and coal chemical, bio tech, as well as electronics and information.

The province witnessed its GDP rise from 0.61 trillion yuan(US$76.52 billion) in 2006 to 1.24 trillion yuan(US$183.17 billion) in 2010, when the GDP per capita was 20,888 yuan(US$3,086), 2.1 times that of 2006. Its energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of GDP dropped 17.25 percent, from 1.171 tons of standard coal in 2006 to 0.969 tons in 2010.

The total output of the large-scale hi-tech industries in the province increased from 181.1 billion yuan (US$22.72 billion) in 2006 to 596.8 billion yuan (US$88.16 billion) in 2010, while the added value amounted to 162.3 billion yuan (US$23.98 billion), 3.2 times that of 2006. The province's R&D spending hit 16.37 billion yuan(US$2.42 billion) in 2010, 2.8 times that of 2006.

The foreign direct investment was US$5.01 billion in 2010, 3.6 times that of 2006. By the end of 2010, a total of 51 of the world's top 500 companies had operations in Anhui. Its foreign trade value rose from US$12.25 billion in 2006 to US$24.27 billion in 2010, of which export made up for US$12.41 billion, up by 81.6 percent from 2006.
