Located in Northern China, Hebei Province's competitive industries include food processing, new energies, auto, electrical, coal, textile, steel and iron, metallurgy, building materials, ceramics, chemicals, pharm, machinery and oil.

Hebei's GDP rose from 1.15 trillion yuan(US$188.16 billion) in 2006 to 2.05 trillion yuan (US$302.83 billion) in 2010, when the GDP per capita was 28,668 yuan(US$4,235), a 71.8 percent increase from 2006. Its energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of GDP dropped by 16.46 percent from 1.895 tons of standard coal in 2006 to 1.583 tons in 2010.

The large-scale hi-tech industries in the province posted 449.46 billion yuan (US$66.39 billion) in total output and 116.25 billion yuan (US$17.17 billion) in added value in 2010, an increase of 253.3 percent and 257.9 percent from 2006, respectively. The province's R&D spending hit 15.54 billion yuan (US$2.3 billion) in 2010, 2 times that of 2006.

The foreign direct investment surged by 90.2 percent from US$2.01 billion in 2006 to US$3.83 billion in 2010. Its foreign trade value rose from US$18.53 billion in 2006 to US$41.93 billion in 2010, of which export was US$22.57 billion, up by 75.9 percent from 2006.
