While the midsize Dodge Avenger sedan received assorted improvements last year, including a new optional V6 engine and revamped dashboard, the midsize sedan still lags behind the best models in its class by an expansive margin. It earned among the lowest scores in Consumer Reports road tests, with the magazine noting deficiencies with regard to engine noise, acceleration, braking, handling, transmission, fuel economy, driving position and rear visibility. But the testers did like the car's controls, so at least the Avenger has that going for it.
