Clooney's World War II took only $22.7 million while "The Lego Movie" made a whopping $69 million and enjoyed the biggest opening of 2014 so far. A sequel is already in development.
Teen film Vampire Academy also opened this weekend but did especially poorly, arriving in 7th place on the charts.
Other chart-toppers, including "Ride Along", "Frozen" and "the Awkward Moment" all dropped in this week's rankings.
